Work In Progress Submissions

Digital Culture and Education is keen to broaden opportunities for publications in order to respond to the need to diversify how academics and researchers report their work, and to engage in broader discussions around technology, culture, and education. We are also keen to amplify the voices of early career researchers and highlight projects that are not yet able to fully produce an academic paper.

With this in mind, we invite work-in-progress material from researchers in the form of a ‘Pecha Kucha’ presentation, a slide show with audio narration. We see this as early work that can be fleshed out for a full academic publication later on. We invite submissions that are not longer than 5 minutes, ideally, 16 slides of 20 seconds each. Please remember that you cannot include copyrighted images in the slides. In line with DCE's general ethos, we encourage these submissions to engage in multimedia ways of presenting projects and ideas. This could include videos, audio submissions, images, GIFs, and other forms of presentation.

The slides will be reviewed by members of the editorial board for content and presentation, and feedback offered.

Suggestions for the what the slides can cover include: research issue/questions; the theoretical frames & literature; the methodology/design/analysis; some key findings/themes; tentative ways forward; references.

We anticipate that this format will allow early presentations and feedback of emerging work, which should not hinder anyone from publishing the same in a more detailed, peer-reviewed article format later on.

You may find it useful to consult web resources on Pecha Kucha presentations before you submit to us, but do bear in mind that we are inviting not more than 16 slides of 20 seconds each.
